What You Need to Get Work at Home Online Jobs

Are you a stay-at-home mom or full-time worker or even a college student that is looking to find a way to work from home? Ive been a freelance writer for four years now, and I have twins also! When I landed my first online job, I knew I didnt want to do anything else. It paid me good money, and over time I picked up more gigs and am able to do this full-time! There is a lot of information about how to find online jobs or how to apply to them. I want to share my experience and help you navigate this path if you want to be a freelance writer. For me, writing is my passion, and I had no idea that you could get paid for your writing! Once I figured that out, the rest is history! My Story of Working From Home My twins were around 15 months old when I decided I need to find a way to contribute to our finances. At first, I looked locally. I made some flyers and went to houses to offer my services as an ABA therapist for children with autism. While I met some great families, the travel alone took most of my day. This meant I was away from my twins and my husband who also works from home couldnt spare the time every day to watching the twins. So, for me to work, I had to have daycare. But, daycare costs would just eat up any money I earned from ABA therapy. So, it didnt make sense for me to do that. I needed to find a way to work from home. I learned from other mom bloggers they were dabbling in online writing. They would write for other blogs or businesses and get paid. Sweet! This could work for me, I thought. Once I decided to do this, I landed my first real online job as a writer within months. I was ecstatic. My first writing project I know I could work from home if I kept landing more work. Over time I increased my rate, picked my writing niche and landed fabulous clients. Now, I help others like you get started as a freelance writer and I also started new projects like more blogs! So, if youre interested, Ill share with you how to get started. Different Types of Online Jobs You Can Do From Home When you visit job sites like Indeed you will quickly see a lot of choices for online work. Things like remote writing jobs, freelance writing jobs, online teaching jobs and more. How can you tell whether all of these are legit? Personally, I would do my due diligence in researching the companies that are hiring and even check Reddit to see if there is some chatter about certain types of online jobs. Since Im a freelance writer, I rely on the job boards that I trust as well as connecting with the business. You might see the income potential for some of these jobs, but make sure to check the reviews for these companies. So transcription work may turn out to be a low paying online job, but if its flexible and you can do this with having a little one running around, its something to consider. Do you enjoy texting? Maybe you can do chat support for businesses. Customer service is a huge online job industry, and you can decide to pick up this micro job while your baby naps. While you cant make a living off of this, it is a quick win and a flexible idea if that is what you want. By far, the most popular online job is teaching and tutoring. Later well explore this gig to see if this is what you want! Where To Look for Online Jobs Traditional job sites are where youll find online jobs. Here are the most popular: Indeed The most popular job site for anyone interested in finding online work or work in general Glassdoor has freelance writing jobs, online jobs, remote jobs, freelance jobs and more. Career Builder This is also a huge job board to find online work LinkedIn LinkedIn is a professional social site, but it is also a job site. You can search companies you are interested in working for, and you can also find certain people to cold pitch to. As well, LinkedIn has its own job board. Monster Another popular and one of the first online job sites available. You can view listings, post your resume and find out about companies to help you figure out which online job would be a good fit Many of these job sites are different than the freelance writing job boards I visited when I first started. If you are interested in strictly content writing or online writing, try checking out these job boards. These sites curate writing jobs from all over and many are good quality, good paying, and can lead you to the path of making a living as a writer. Problogger This is the most popular job site for online writers. Every day there are more content jobs in all types of niches. From pet writing to SEO writing to lifestyle writing and more, you can find an online job easily. Freelance Writing This job board curates writing jobs from several other job sites. I find this cuts my time in half when I can just go to one job board to find several freelance writing jobs. All Freelance Writing What I like about this job site is that the owner tells you if the online job is low pay, semi-pro, or pro. This can help you gauge the quality and pay of the writing gig. Contena This is a job board with high-paying writing jobs. I find this job site to have the best quality gigs and I can choose my niche and rate to find the exact jobs I want. Online Teaching Jobs Okay, so maybe you want to explore online teaching jobs. Online teaching jobs require you to have teaching experience and certification. For example, many online jobs require: TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, ESL certification BA or AA degree You to speak a different language (only teaching jobs) You to work certain hours at night Tech equipment like a webcam, a computer, and headset If you find some online teaching jobs that dont require certification I would be cautious. Make sure to read the reviews if available. Many reviews will let you know that to receive the pay thats advertised you have to work long hours. For example, this online teaching job ticks all the boxes as a good gig to apply to. So, if youre a teacher make sure the online job is legit. Online Tutoring Jobs Another popular online job is tutoring. Again, its important to have teaching certifications or at least a university degree. These types of online jobs are primarily tutoring younger children or high school children. Many of these jobs are tutoring international students. This can open the doors to understanding cultural differences or learn how to provide tutoring using an online platform. This, in turn, can help you as a tutor. Many of these tutoring jobs: Supply you with the curriculum to tutor Supply the resources for your lessons Supply the training What If Youre a College Student? Many of the jobs mentioned are great online jobs for college students. Since many of these jobs are flexible or have unconventional work times, this fits a college students schedule great. And for many high school and college students, tutoring is a natural fit. However, many of these online jobs require certification, and if you dont have that, you may want to find other jobs that dont specify this requirement. But, as I mentioned previously, be cautious of those types of online jobs. Personally, if you opt for freelance writing, you dont need any experience. You can get started without a degree or without having online work. For example, for this freelance writing job as an automotive writer, the only big requirement is that they want a US-based writer. Requirements for a freelance writing job So as a college student, you can still land some great online jobs, but maybe a content writing job might be a better fit overall. Best Online Job I think the best online job is freelance writing! Its a sustainable way to make money. And, if you land some great clients you can make a living off of this. A lot of my students found great success early on. But, to be a freelance writer, you need a presence online. While finding online jobs dont require you to have a website or social media profiles, a freelance writer does. Why? Because to make this a viable option to work from home indefinitely, you need an online presence. Its much easier to create a writer website and have the writing jobs come to you! Leads in my inbox So, thats why Im a tad biased on freelance writing. 🙂 What You Need to Get Started For jobs you can do from home, many require education, experience and time commitment to get started. While they promote a flexible work option, to me, this isnt freedom. As a freelance writer, I can pick and choose my writing jobs. I can do this month after month, year after year and flex my writing muscles. Teachers and college students can be freelance writers. If you love writing and love researching, you can be a freelance writer. Make sure you have a business PayPal account before you begin looking for any online job. To get started, here are the basics: 1. A Website To make this a real thing its best to have a website that shows potential clients you are a legit writer. Here is my writer website: My writer website Innovative Ink My website speaks to my ideal client native digital brands. If a digital brand is seeking an online writer and happens to find my website, my copy shows them that I can be the writer for them. If you need help starting your website, check out my simple tutorial. 2. A Writing Niche Ideally, having a freelance writing niche can help you find work quickly. Definitively knowing that you want to be a pet writer or a food writer or a parenting writer makes it easier to find the right type of online job you want, right? How do you find your niche? I would look at your hobbies, your previous work experience or your passions and find some topics you might be interested in writing about. Next, search on Google or on job boards, your topic to see if its a viable option. For example, a lot of my subscribers mention the arts is a topic they want to write about. Since my niche is small business, you can try to find art exhibitions or companies that supply the paint or art supplies to see if they have an online presence, a blog or a newsletter. Or, you can write for magazines. This one Visual Arts News offers up to $150 per article. 3. Samples Look Youre not going to land an online job or remote writing job with no proof. While you dont need experience to be a freelance writer, you do need proof you can write for an online audience. Writing a blog post for your client is completely different than writing a blog post on your personal blog. The blog posts on my blog Elna Cain are written as close to how I would write for my clients. The biggest difference is that my client pieces wouldnt have I or a lot of my personal background story in them. Instead, I would use facts and statistics in my writing. If you need help with creating samples, make sure to check out this post on two unique ways you can quickly create samples. Can I use fiction writing? Many writers have short stories or books that theyve written. You might be wondering if you can use these pieces of content for landing an online writing job. Personally, I work with small businesses providing business type content. So, I know for my ideal client, they wouldnt hire you if you provided a fictional story. If you decide to be a ghostwriter for authors or businesses that want a ghostwriter for their book, then maybe showing your stories would help seal the deal. Can I use writing from my current job? Do you do some writing for your current job? Maybe you create reports or instructional manuals for your job. You might be able to use these types of samples if your freelance writing niche is more tech-based writing. I would also get approval from your current job asking if you can use those as samples. 4. A Social Media Presence Yes Another thing you need to start online writing is a social media presence. Again, you want to make writing a sustainable way to live, and to do this, you need to be everywhere online. Simply having a Twitter profile and a LinkedIn profile is sufficient, though. 5. Know Where to Find Writing Jobs I mentioned some job boards for freelance writers in this post. This is a great start. For more ideas, check out this post on 20 different ways to find a freelance writing job. It is filled with the best, most up-to-date information regarding how to find a freelance job easily. You can also check out my free course. I show you the correct steps and give you tips and resources for finding your first client. Get My Free Course on Getting Paid to Write Online Online Jobs So You Can Work From Home Whether you apply to online jobs, or you pitch a freelance writing job, the goal is the same to be able to work from home for good. I started this journey over four years ago, and I was able to take care of my twin toddlers during the day and work at night. My twins are in school now, and Im doing this full-time. Im sure youve been looking on the internet for jobs and have come across countless ways you can make money online. These online teaching and tutoring jobs can be a good fit, but they may not be sustainable over time. Instead, why not try freelance writing? You dont need a degree or experience 🙂 Over to you tell me your experience with online jobs and freelance writing jobs.

buy custom Welfare State in Britain essay

buy custom Welfare State in Britain essay The history of the welfare state in Britain began around 1940-1950 and this period marked a point in their history. Professor Jeremy Black (2011) recorded in BBC that Britain [during the period] quickly relinquished its status as the world's largest imperial power. Poor Law (1834) The British Prime Minister, Earl Grey, set up the Poor Law in 1833. The law stated that no able-bodied person was to receive money or other help from the Poor Law authorities except in a workhouse (Spartacus International). And in the workhouses, the poor had to work hard in return for the care they received (The National Archives). The law was abolished later in 1948 due to the abuses that occurred (Owston, 2009). The development of the Poor Law as part of the welfare state of Britain became significant to their history because it has altered and made a great impact regarding the social improvement of the country. The Liberal Reforms (1906-1914) As recorded in BBC, the Liberal government in 1906-1914, reforme the welfare services in the country. The reform included the Education (Provision of Meals) Act 1906, Education (Administrative Provisions) Act 1907, Childrens Act 1909, Old Age Pension Act 1908, National Insurance Act Part 1 (Health) 1911, Labour Exchanges Act 1909, National Insurance Act Part 2 (Unemployment) 1911, The Workmen's Compensation Act 1906, The Coal Mines Act 1908, The Trade Boards Act 1909 and The Shops Act 1911. The reforms became a significant milestone in the history of Britain because it ended the principles of laissez-faire and benefited the modern welfare provision. Public Health Act (1848-1875) The Public Health Act of 1875 compelled that local authorities secure sewage disposal, adequate water supply and drainage. Removal of burials, nuisances, notification of infectious diseases, and destruction of contaminated food were regulated. For the first time this Act ensured an effective system of public health throughout the country. It has been described as the single most important Act of Parliament of the century (Scaife, 2004, p. 38). This development in the history of Britain became significant parrticularly to the health of the people. It built health awareness to everyone. The Labour Party (1945-1951) The Labour party, led by Clement Atlee, came to power in 1945 and continued to make reforms until 1951. The reforms included an enlarged system of social services which included the nationalization of major industries and public utilities and the establishment of the National Health Service (Wikipedia). These changes made significance to the British Welfare State since they made a great impact in its development. Beveridge Report William Beveridge published his report in 1942 and recommended that the government should find ways of fighting the five Giant Evils of Want, Disease, Ignorance, Squalor and Idleness (William Beveridge). His report influenced the prime minister Clement Atlee who established the National Health Service in 1948 and a national system of benefits to provide social security. His report became significant as it inspire and lead the leaders to make a move regarding the social welfare system of the British state. Buy custom Welfare State in Britain essay

The problem of privacy in the age of google glass Essay

The problem of privacy in the age of google glass - Essay Example Privacy is like a basic factor in the life of every single person that lives on this planet called earth. Therefore, this makes it right for everyone, and it should not be invaded or intruded by anyone especially every other member of the public. For example, future, wearable digital devices are constantly being invented and being illustrious in the mainstream news media. People are gradually embracing the idea that our future digital life will be with view computers, brain-computer interfaces, digital tattoos and head-up. In keeping with the Google Glass phenomenon, these are devices that are often spoken off way before they are even produced and made available for the general public to buy and use. The fact should be that as the future-proposed technology and inventions move on, people need to understand the concepts that drive the devices that these inventors create, nonetheless also the social structuring and identity building that humans endure in this gradual process. On to the first issue, this is the privacy in the web and the current problem that it entails. The web is like the central place where almost everyone visits on more than one occasion in a single day. Mostly for over the half the population of the world who are in the social media sites, the web is like their daily need, and before they use it they cannot feel that their day is complete. Most of these social media sites require one to enter their personal details making others able to view and observe others’ personal information. Just as Mark Andrejevic said in his book, the web allows one to be watched easily and closely. One can be tracked, through the use of programs that use the GPS system which is most efficient in the web, surveillance that can be executed at will also be possible through the web. Mark Andrejevic went to the extent of writing a book namely, â€Å"The Work of Being Watched:

INSANITY AND MURDER Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

INSANITY AND MURDER - Essay Example Women were further forced into the stereotypical passive housewife role† (Frick, 2002). Those women who found this role difficult to assume were often the subjects of harsh treatments or otherwise controlling methods that were designed to bring them back into their socially accepted, and therefore considered natural, roles. â€Å"Cures included bed rest, seclusion, bland food, refrain from mental activities (such as reading), daily massage, and sensory depravation. Though these treatments do not seem too appalling, they were comparable to solitary confinement and would often drive a woman to further insanity† (Frick, 2002). These are the types of women who are often seen gracing the pages of late nineteenth and early 20th century writers such as William Faulkner and Susan Glaspell. In stories like â€Å"A Rose for Emily† (Faulkner) and â€Å"Trifles† (Glaspell), women can be seen to be driven to insanity by the controlling actions of the men. Faulkner introduces Miss Emily Grierson as a woman who has never been provided an opportunity to become comfortable or familiar with the world outside of her father’s old world ideals. â€Å"None of the young men were quite good enough to Miss Emily and such. We had long thought of them as a tableau; Miss Emily a slender figure in white in the background, her father a spraddled silhouette in the foreground, his back to her and clutching a horsewhip, the two of them framed by the back-flung front door† (437). This created a situation in which Miss Emily â€Å"got to be thirty and was still single† (437), forced to live in her maidenhood forever and lacking any connection to the rest of the world. Miss Emily’s inability to relate to the real world outside her fantasy is first manifested completely when she refused to acknowledge her father’s change of state upon his death. â€Å"Miss Emily met them at the door, dressed as usual and with no trace of

How medical care important during war Research Paper

How medical care important during war - Research Paper Example Most of them were not qualified. Over 10,000 surgeons had served in the US army. At that era of 1860s, it was a huge tragedy. Medical knowledge had not been addressed as uses of sterile dressing and antiseptic surgery was not used. As a result, most of them died due to diseases. Also, intestinal dysentery complaints such as dysentery were common as it claimed many lives than those caused by wounds (Anne 66). The Medical care has made many transitions dating back to civil war days. The research identifies the significance made by medical care sector through innovation made in that period. In this context, the research features the medical care employed initially and improvements made at recent times. The breakthrough has been suitable in the current wars. A variety of essentials of medical care necessary in battlefield will be reviewed closely. The importance is associated with a variety of innovations made. Medical care is essential in the war fight for any eventuality that comes with the scenario. Ensured sanitation and hygiene-this are inherent in military medicine in order to reduce the number of casualties by avoiding of non-combat related issues among military personnel especially in the prevention of disease. It encompassed the prevention of communicable diseases, promoting of personal hygiene that has ensured free supply of water food sanitation, as well as administered waste disposal. It is achieved through controlling, preventing and combating insect borne diseases such as mosquito, fleas and other insects. Field hygiene control measures included awareness on knowledge to avoid venomous animals and control on rodent-borne diseases. These diseases are rampant in battlefields (Zachary 16). Literature Review of Body Temperature Studies

Literature Review of Body Temperature Studies Literature survey Body temperature is one of the vital signs and it is a complex clinical variable, which can be captured accurately and quantitatively analysed 1-2. According to German physician Wunderlich, the normal body temperature is defined as 37 0C and fever as 38 0C 3. A healthy, resting adult human normal core body temperature is 37 0C. However body temperature is not constant and varies among individuals throughout the day, because of individuals metabolism rate, which is directly proportional to the normal core body temperature, time of a day or part of the body in which the temperature measured at, in the early morning the body temperature is lower and in late evening it is high due to after muscular activity and food intake. Body temperature also varies at different sites. In clinical practice the rectal, oral, axillary, forehead and ear are used to measure body temperature. An oral site, which is more convenient to measure temperature is at 37 0C. Axillary site is not accurate to measure the temperature, where temperature fall at least value36.4 0C is noted from this site. Generally rectal temperature is considered to be the gold standard for core body temperature and average temperature is fall at 37.60C.Being an internal core body temperature, it is least time consuming procedure. The temperature is higher than at other sites, due to the low blood flow and high isolation of the area, giving a low heat loss16. Rectal temperature measurement is unhygienic and can pose a risk of injury to the intestinal mucosa, especially in infants and in rectal surgery. It increases physical and psychological stress and can cause embarrassment, anxiety and physical discomfort17. The tympanic is a good site for non-invasive measurement of core body temperature. Howeve r care should be exercised with the different modes of operation offered.18 When summarizing studies with able or adequately able affirmation, the ambit for articulate temperature was 33.2-38.2 0C, rectal: 34.4-37.8 0C, tympanic: 35.4-37.80C. The ambit in articulatetemperature for men and women, respectively, was 35.7-37.7and 33.2-38.1 0C, in abdominal 36.7-37.5 in tympanic 35.5-37.5 and35.7-37.5 0C1. Mackowiak et al. in 1992 recorded the body temperatures of 65 men with the average value of36.8 0C (98.2 0F).4 The thermometer is one of the most attempted and trusted clinical instruments, yet surprising surround the information which it yields. The use of thermometer in clinical medicine was started in the middle of 19th century. However its understanding and significance of temperature measurement in health and diseased condition was occurred from past twenty decades 19. Thermometer is invented in seventeenth-century, it did not reach medicine until the 1870s, it was already in veterinary use because it provided an early diagnosis of the dreaded cattle plague-as discovered 100 years earlier by a French veterinary student. On the other hand the existence of fever had been recognized since 600 B.C. For most of this time, fever was believed to be beneficial, even to absurd degrees. `If there were a physician skilful1 enough to produce a fever it would be useless to seek any other remedy against disease-according to Rufus of Ephesus in A.D. 100. By the 17OOs, however, the ability of willow bark to reduce fever became known and, as ever, once an effective drug was available, excellent use was found for it. The ability to control fever fostered the belief that it ought to be controlled, or at least that it was unhelpful, without much real evidence: `The role of fever in disease remains unexplained. Fever may eventually be shown to confer a greater advantag e to the defence mechanism of the host than to the invasive properties of the microorganism19. In 1861, Carl Wunderlich was the first German physician performed the systemic measurement of human core body temperature in healthy individuals, the average reported value was 37 0C or 98.6 degree Fahrenheit. Because of his work on temperature Wunderlich is generally regarded as the father of clinical thermometry20-21. According to Wunderlich, normal body temperature lies within a range of 97.2 0F/36.2 0C to 99.5 0F/37.5 0C. Wunderlich found that the body temperature is not constant and varies in both healthy and unhealthy individuals. He wrote, The lowest point is reached in the morning hours between two and eight, and the highest in the afternoon between four. In his investigation the body temperature rises in mental exertion, constipation and urine retention. He observed that women have slightly higher body temperature than men and among age groups; older individuals have significantly lower body temperature compare to younger individuals20. Body temperature is influenced by several factors, such as diurnal variation and cellular metabolism, due to muscle activity during the day exercise and ambient temperature 22-23. Daily body temperature is not dependent on site of measurement, which is non-linear, and characterized by moment to moment complex variability 4 .The cosinor analysis of temperature variability data is well established in circadian research of body temperature rhythms, which is described in a simple cosine wave, which is typically characterized in terms of acrophase, amplitude, and mesor, where it filtered out the complex variability data4. Under natural conditions expected timing of the nadir and acrophase , value of the mesor, and amplitude of temperature rhythm was significantly different in an individual’s temperature rhythm, which will be influenced by many endogenous countenance of the environments as well as health status4. During menstrual period, there is an increase in body temperature ranging from 0.5-1.0 ° F/0.25-0.5 ° C is typically observed at or around ovulation(ref- Circannual and menstrual rhythm characteristics in manic episodes and body temperature. in note.) . Comparison of between follicular phase and the post-ovulation luteal phase, body temperature is elevated, but the amplitude of the temperature rhythm is reduced (ref- Circadian rhythms, sleep, and the menstrual cycle. In word doc.). It has been reported that the temperature in luteal stage is 0.4 0C higher than follicular stage (26 ref- in note ). (Check original ref no. in protocol.) This is mainly because of the progesterone hormone level in luteal stage and some studies proved that rise in body temperature is due to effect of progesterone hormone whereas oestrogen has lowering effect. the temperature remain elevated in luteal phase as long as the progesterone levels are increased. ( ref-29 and 33 in note.) )(check 27-28 origina l ref ) Physical fitness varies the normal body temperature; Atkinson G et al found that the physically active groups have higher amplitude of temperature than inactive groups. However the oral temperature of physically active group had lower than inactive group at 2.00 and 6.00. Rest of the time physically active group had significantly higher oral temperature than inactive group. Age has also an important role in variability of temperature. In most of the studies reported that cosinor analysis of temperature; mesor and amplitude decreases with increase in age. Gubin et al reported that normal temperature range is higher in young adults than in elders. Mesor is higher in young adults (97.5 ° F/36.38 ° C) than in elderly subjects (97.1 ° F/36.17 ° C) and amplitude was also increased in young adults than in elderly subjects. The mean circadian acrophase was similar in both age groups (17:19 versus 16:93); however, inter-individual differences were higher in the older group, with individual values varying between 10:00 and 23:00 hours (ref.-48 in note ). In another study Howell et al recorded the oral temperature using electronic thermometer in 105 females age ranges from 61-105 years and reported a group mean of 36 0C,which is significantly lower than in a younger adults.(29 in original protocol). Touitou et al, found that the daily body temperature ampl itude was decreased in the elderly subjects when compared to healthy adult individuals.(30 in original protocol). Nonlineardynamics and complexity theory appear to offer an alternative approach. Many biological structures can be regarded as natural fractals and much physiological behaviour can be explained by deterministic chaos (heart rate, bacterial population growth, hormonal secretion pulses, and epidemics. Furthermore, in many cases, pathological conditions and ageing are known to be accompanied by losses in complexity. The complexity of the temperature curve could be regularly measured in all cases. Consistent results were obtained using three entirely independent methods that measure different aspects (in two cases the dynamic behaviour, in the other the anfractuosity of the curve), with good correlation between all methods. None of the complexity measures was significantly different for the two sexes, nor were they affected by the BMI. On the other hand, all measures of complexity were inversely correlated with age. This finding is somehow coded in the temperature readings, but classical statistical indicators are not capable of bringing it to light. The finding of an inverse correlation between age and the degree of complexity of the temperature curve was likewise not unexpected. Ageing and illness are known to be accompanied by a loss of complexity in certain patterns of chaotic behaviour12. For instance; variability in heart rate decreases with age and in certain conditions is associated with a poor prognosis31. It could be argued that, as has been postulated for heart rate, body temperature is governed by several different regulatory systems (thermogenesis, vasoconstriction- vasodilatation mechanisms, sweating, breathing rate) and at the same time is subject to external factors (ambient temperature, exercise, clothing). Perhaps illness and ageing cause a certain decoupling or isolation of the thermal regulatory system from its surroundings. This in turn could result in less complexity of the temperature plot, leading to lower ApEn and FDc values and higher DFA values12. Varela et al. reported that in healthy subjects, the temperature curve behaves like a natural fractal whose complexity may be analyzed in a consistent manner. In addition, they observed that complexity decreased significantly with age. The complexity of the temperature curve is tightly inversely correlated with the severity of the patients condition. Both mean and minimum ApEn were significantly lower in patients who died than in patients who survived. Consequently one would expect to see a reduced complexity in the temperature readings of critically ill patients, the level of complexity mirroring the patients clinical evolution. In this respect, the mean ApEn value for the patient series was significantly lower than the mean ApEn for a series of 21 healthy subjects. The inverse correlation between the ApEn values and the SOFA scores in most of thein their series was likewise consistent with that premise32. In another study of Varela et al. reported that there was good correlation between complexity results and clinical scores for each patient. Non survivors exhibited lower complexity values than survivors, so low levels of complexity in the temperature curve are poor indicators  of prognosis in patients with multiple organ failure.  The predictive ability of temperature curve complexity is similar to that of the SOFA score33. Available evidence suggested that body temperature is a complex, non-linear physiological variable and has an accepted 24 hour rhythm associated with health. Body temperature is also subject to many sources of endogenous and exogenous variation4. Temperature curve analysis may provide relevant information on the aetiology of fever thus may assist in early diagnosis of disease 12. There are few cases where rectal temperature is measured intermittently using thermometer to generate fever patterns but it is a tedious procedure and has a limited usefulness in diagnosis of certain clinical conditions such as, double quotidian fever curves in diagnosis of mixed malarial infections, visceral leishmaniasis, right-sided gonococcal endocarditis and sustained fever patterns in typhoid fever 13. Musher D M et al found that the fever pattern is not likely to be helpful in diagnosis of sustained fever in Gram-negative pneumonia or in CNS damage with possible exceptions.(new ref in fever pattern). Papaioannou et al studied temperature curve complexity using wavelet transformation in 22 patients with systemic inflammation found that there is a decrease in complexity of temperature especially more in sepsis condition. They suggested that complexity analysis of temperature signals can help in assessment of inherent thermoregulatory dynamics during systemic inflammation and also can increase discriminating value in patients with infectious versus non-infectious conditions, probably associated with severity of illness. However monitoring of 24 hour ambulatory core body temperature so far has been limited and still remains obscure. Studies have shown that core body temperature is not constant, and fluctuates in different clinical conditions and in various endogenous and exogenous factors, where variability of core body temperature patterns is noted. However assessment of 24 hour core body has not been established in detail. Thus standardization of core body temperature using spectral analysis might play a significant role in clinical practice, which would potentially help us to predict clinical outcome in the early part of fever in patients and with other associated clinical conditions.

Color Imagery in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight :: essays papers

Color Imagery in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Sir Gawain And The Green Knight I believe that the color imagery in Sir Gawain And The Green Knight represents nature, as a force that man has little control over. This is evident during the journey of Sir Gawain, and later, his shame in front of King Arthur's court. Nature does as it will in ways that can not be controlled by man. The best they can do is to acknowledge the fact that it is happening. They had no control whatsoever, and therefore, were subject to it's, at times, ferocity. This is similar to the ferocity displayed by the Green Knight. The Green Knight worked under his own set of rules, and like a growing tree, man had, and still has, no control over when the tree would leaf or bloom, or how long it's branches would grow. The Green Knight, like nature, has to be understood before it can be dealt with, and even then, you are not guaranteed success. You need to know how he thinks, and play your cards right, in order to come out of the fight successfully. At first Sir Gawain was on the right path, but throughout his journey, he became sidetracked and due to that, he brought shame unto himself, and to the court of King Arthur. The story begins with a New Year's feast at Arthur's court in Camelot. All the knights and ladies gather to exchange gifts, and to eat and be merry. Everyone is laughing and having a good time, while Arthur amuses them with stories of courageous knights. The first course is served, and the guests are about to eat, when a knight, dressed totally in green, rides into the dining hall. The knight is very large, well-dressed, and imposing. It seems that he has come in peace, due to the absence of his armor and shield. The Green Knight's connection to nature is emphasized when he is presented holding a "holly bob...That is goodliest in green when groves are bare"(206-7). His closeness to nature is also apparent when the color of the knight is described as "green as the grass"(235). The Green Knight has a challenge, and he demands to speak to the head of the court. King Arthur, being the head of the court, answers the call of the Green Knight. The Green Knight proceeds to tell Arthur that it is his court who are the best and most noble knights in the land, and he has come here with a challenge.

A.C Bradley’s Definition of Tragic Hero Essay

A famous Shakespearean scholar, Andrew Cecil Bradley, who was born in England, in 1851, wrote a book called The Shakespearean Tragedy (1904). This book is recognized as a classic Shakespearean criticism, which presents a psychological analysis of Shakespeare’s characters. The Article, The Shakespearean Tragic Hero (p.687-691) explains Bradley’s definition of tragedy and tragic hero. According to Bradley, the tragic hero must be of a person of high degree or of public importance with exceptional nature, which raises person, in some respect much above the average level of humanity. This trait will acts as double-edged sword as it is his greatness but also his fatality. The fatal trait, joining with hero’s tragic flaw or flawed act, brings catastrophe; that is, his downfall and ultimately his death. The tragic hero must be good or admirable, or at least recognized by person’s high degree or greatness; so we may be vividly conscious of the possibilities of human nature. Tragedy builds, as hero endures calamity and faces fate. The hero’s fate is determined by the existence of moral order. Therefore, to restore the mortal order in a tragic world, one must go through struggle between good and evil. According to Bradley, the tragic hero with Shakespeare is generally good and therefore at once wins sympathy in his error; but the hero’s imperfection or defects are considered evil and they contribute to the conflict and catastrophe. When the evil in him masters the good and has its way, it destroys other people and ultimately destroys him. The pity and fear, which are stirred by the tragic story, unites with profound sense of sadness and mystery gives impression of waste, and this impression of waste makes us realize the worth of that is wasted. Thus, Bradley ends with the conclusion, that the inexplicable fact or appearance of a world travailing for perfection, which brings birth to glorious goods and evil that is only able to overcome only by self-torture and self-waste is tragedy. Grendal Of Beowulf Essays - Beowulf, English-language Films, Geats

Grendal Of Beowulf Essays - Beowulf, English-language Films, Geats Grendal Of Beowulf Grendel on the Moors Or How Grendel Got His Groove Back It is true that Grendel is monstrous. He is not only a deadly enemy to Hrothgar and Herot, but to the Geats in general. Grendel seems to take his only pleasure from assaulting Herot and destroying the warriors inside. He is a bane to all those that live under Hrothgar's rule. They hate him. He is called the enemy of mankind (29) and rightly so. However, because of Grendels actions, they cannot see the other part of Grendel that makes him do the evil he does. Grendel, like the Angels before and the Geats soon after, is symbolic of displaced races/peoples and not simply a mindless monster. When Adam and Eve had children, they had two boys. Their names were Cain and Able. When Cain killed Able, God banished him far from mankind (29). From Cain came trolls, elves, monsters, and giants. Grendel is a descendant of Cain, so he shares Cains banishment. Cain may have been the first displaced person after Adam and Eve were thrown out of the Garden. Grendel shares his ancestors sentence. He is displaced not only from whatever land or wealth he would have if he were human but he is also displaced form God. It is this displacement that causes Grendel to destroy. Since he cannot approach the throne (28) like other people, he chooses to try to destroy the throne, because he has no love for him (God) (28). This is the main reason Grendel is symbolic of displaced peoples. After all, he is a direct descendent of the very first displaced people, Adam and Eve. However, unlike Adam and Eve, Grendel is doomed to an eternity of banishment from Gods light because of Cains sin against his br other. That is why Grendel kills, because he cannot be in the light, because he is at war with God. Grendel is not only banished from Gods light, but from the light in general. Throughout the text, references are made to Grendel as the walker in darkness (36), and the dark-death shadow (29). This kind of imagery further shows how displaced Grendel has become. The text refers to him as a creature deprived of joy (36). The text also refers to Grendels dwelling as his joyless home (37). It is no wonder Grendel was considered so monstrous. Like other displaced peoples, he has nowhere that is a refuge to him, because he has been removed from his home, or in Grendels case, the love of the Lord. Grendel, like other displaced peoples, did not accept his banishment without a fight. Like other displaced peoples, Grendel fought back. He had no sorrow over the killings he committed. He did them willingly. The reason behind Grendels slaughter is not because he is a mindless beast, but because he is jealous over not being able to share in the Geats feasting and celebrating under Gods love. Grendel has been permanently kicked out of the light. And like any race that has lost his or her land or home, he fought back, if not to get back in the light, then to at least make sure no one else can enjoy it. Grendel can have no peace as long as he sees Gods people celebrating and living in a way he will never be able to. Thats why Grendel, driven by evil desire and swollen with rage (36), worked so hard at attempting to destroy Herot. In Grendels mind, if he could deprive the Geats of their meadhall, which they loved so much, then they would be like him: a people with no home and with no joy. Grendel, being symbolic of displaced peoples, also makes him very symbolic of the An gels. Grendels tale shares many similarities with the Angels. While God pushed Grendel into exile, the Vikings forced the Angels from their land. Both Grendel and the Angels were forced to retreat under duress. Both of them also fought back. Grendel waged his battle against Herot and Hrothgar people while the Angels battled with the Danes for control of England. However, while the Angels won against the Vikings and formed a truce, Beowulf destroyed Grendel. The Angels are just one of many

Nutritional Physiology and Biochemistry Assignment

Nutritional Physiology and Biochemistry - Assignment Example According to the research findings, a number of different types of food must be consumed in order to provide the body with the energy that it needs for even the simplest of processes. Proteins must be consumed in order for the body to grow, and they are essential for the repair of the muscles, should they become damaged. Healthy fats are important to consume, as these contain vitamins, and the fat is necessary for us to survive. Minerals are important to the body's simple functions; vitamins give the body what is necessary to remain healthy, and they are soluble in fats and water, depending on what types of vitamins are consumed. Roughage is the foods that we need to eat in order to provide us with our source of fiber, and it is this fiber that enables food to be processed through our digestive tract. Finally, the last two very important elements of nutrition are carbohydrates and water. Carbohydrates are the body's most important source of energy, and water is important for all func tions of the body. Because the body is made up of approximately sixty to seventy percent of water, it is to the body's detriment if it is denied even the slightest form of water necessary for it to function. IF any of these are unbalanced in the least bit, this will cause the body to not function as it should. For one, if the body is lacking in carbohydrates, then the person will become tired and have a hard time getting tasks completed. If the body lacks water, then dehydration sets in, which can cause a myriad of problems, such as dizziness, the skin drying out, a speeding heart rate, and even death if not dealt with. Without fiber, the digestive tract cannot move; if the body is lacking in fat, then certain body processes cannot take place, such as the ability of foods to be metabolized. And finally, if vitamins, proteins, and minerals are lacking, then malnourishment can set in, and the body will not be able to heal properly, such as the muscles and tissues will not be able to r epair themselves if damaged. When nutritional balance and the appropriate level of energy are maintained, the body and its processes will run smoothly. Not to mention, health and stability will be maintained. When comparing the energy of the human body to which is measured by a bomb calorimeter, there are some differences as to how the energy is obtained. For one, the energy of a bomb calorimeter is obtained through electrical energy igniting the fuel so that the calories contained in the fuel can be measured. Secondly, pure oxygen is suppressed inside, and the combustion of these gasses, i.e. the energy that is being discharged from this technology. Gasses that have been discharged, and the water that is around the tubing is heated up, and this is contributing to the combustion. The heat and the combustion are what is the energy that is considered to be measured, which is under constant pressure. Available energy from the human body is different than that of a bomb calorimeter. Ava ilable energy is measured in a number of ways. It is measured by heart rate through various instruments, such as heart rate monitors, and it is not measured by combustion like that of the bomb calorimeter.

Analyze a Category of Advertisements Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Analyze a Category of Advertisements - Essay Example Multiple methods of advertising reaches out to the most people possible. To determine whether these marketing tactics work, a return on the dollar ratio is calculated by each company's marketing team. When looking for certain advertisements to categorize together, it was easy to see that many of them are somewhat similar depending on the product. Fragrance advertisements all look the same with any celebrity aiming to make a dollar has a fragrance line up and coming. Celebrities are also used to endorse a wide variety of products of anything from make up with spokespeople such as Drew Barrymore and Ellen DeGeneres to tennis shoes endorsed by popular athletes such as Michael Jordan. When trying to evaluate which genre of advertising to choose to analyze, I decided upon weight loss program advertisements. This includes weight loss supplements and dieting programs and can even combine that with fitness programs that guarantee that people will get ripped bodies in just a matter of a few m onths. The many avenues for advertising include billboards, television, radio, mobile advertisements, online advertising and print advertisements in newspapers and magazines. When analyzing weight loss program advertisements, various products are marketed on virtually every avenue. The products range from crash diets and magic pills to lifestyle changing diets and workout regimens. For this genre, the marketing processes are all across the board, targeting a variety of people. As Americans, with obesity on the rise, many of these weight loss programs can appeal to a variety of different audiences. However, they are all effective in their own way, appealing to audiences of different ages and both male and female either for an instant weight loss change or one that is more gradual and requires discipline. One advertisement that I have seen rather frequently is one that appears in many celebrity gossip magazines. The product is NV and it promises the product buyer that a person can dro p one jean size in two weeks. The advertisement is endorsed by former Playboy bunny and ex-girlfriend of Hugh Hefner, Holly Madison. She can be categorized herself as a 30-something year old bombshell. Already thin, the advertisement shows Holly Madison heading to a grocery store in an already too tight shirt with a little bit of belly flab hanging out. In the advertisement, it has her own caption written stating that she looked awful in that picture and after using NV got her body back. She is then pictured looking slim and glamorous and the product is called one that acts fast and that it is one of Hollywood's secrets of the stars who need to lose weight immediately. The advertisement prominently displays Holly Madison's hot new body after using a weight loss product and also shows a smaller photo of the actual product. It advertises which major chain retailers that the product can be found and also gives a web address for those looking at the advertisement and says that a person may be able to try a bottle for free. While flipping through other magazines of this same type, celebrity gossip, the same advertisement can be found throughout. Some of them are single spreads and some are even a full three pages of full color advertisements showing the beauty and glamour of being able able to drop weight fast just like the celebrities do. Readers of this type of magazine are typically female and based on the
